When leading your horse, be sure that he walks shoulder to shoulder with you and neither rushes ahead or lags behind. This serves the dual purpose of reminding him that, for safety’s sake, you are in control of his movements and not the other way around. It also promotes your safety if he were to suddenly startle.
Remember: horses cannot see either directly behind or in front of themselves.
